Antique French Delorme Verge Fusee REPEATER Oignon silver pocket watch&fob c1720. The watch has an amazing entirely hand engraved and hand pierced case. This case is a real masterpiece-maybe the most beautiful watch case I have ever had in the last 20 years. It depicting 4 different portraits of French noble man and women. To the inner side is attached a large bell. Amazing solid silver hand chased dial with original hand hammered iron hands. The watch has an amazing fire gilt full plate verge fusee movement-all hand made and hand finished-fantastic hand pierced huge silver balance cock depicting phoenix birds and sea monsters, large silver regulator disc, silver fancy baluster Pillars, huge size chain.

Nothing has been ever changed, repaired or altered in this watch! Please note that this is the oldest watch in my collection-it is over 300 years old, but preserved in museum condition and PERFECT WORKING ORDER!!! However do not expect a quartz accuracy from 300 old watch. This is a collector's piece-not a daily timekeeper. It's place belonge to museum or to your display window, not in your pocket!

The watch is really imprssive. The movement is 27mm thick! 237g heavy together with the chatelaine.

Watchmakers in France modified the dimensions to a bulbous shape, hence the name oignon.

The upheaval caused by the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) forced Protestant watchmakers to seek refuge abroad, therefore halting technical watchmaking in France. Various European wars forced Louis XIV to order the melting of silver and gold, including oignon watches, in order to finance the war effort.
