Matthey & Comp 1790 An exquisite Louis XVI gold enamel split pearls verge fuse pocket watch with original 18k gold enamel chatelaine. Outstanding 18k gold-enamel case beautifully enamel scene on the back decorated with split-pearls. The case is in very good condition. The original 18k gold enamel chatelaine decorated with pearls, pendant and two keys, all in all in very good condition with small enamel chips.

White enamel dial with Roman Hours and Arabic minutes, finely pierced Louis XVI gold hands and dial is in very nice undamaged condition. Flat full plate movement with verge escapement, guilt and frosted, key wind, chain / fusee, three-armed brass balance. Fine pierced and engraved balance cook. The watch was freshly cleaned and serviced by my watchmaker and checked for function and is in very good condition. Weight 69g, with Chatelaine 103g.

This is a fine Louis XVI pocket watch, a French style movement dating to a period between rococo and neoclassicism. This example is a wonderful combination of playful rococo elements with the straightforward, classical style of neoclassicism.

The watch has a clear-cut dial with vertically aligned Roman numerals and delicate open work hands. The bezel is decorated with opalescent white and translucent blue enamel panels in a geometric pattern; the back shows an almond-shaped enamel medallion with a polychrome scene: a young lady in a classical robe, a dog and a pair of pigeons in a wide gold frame with inlaid white corn ears, flower tendrils and vases the more naturalistic elements. Matthey & Comp : There is a lot of Matthey (or Mathey) watchmakers listed, mostly situated in Switzerland and some in Paris. I tend to classify the watch as French, the Comp is the English label for the companion, French Cie. I think that the watch belongs in style to France, but was produced for the English market and therefore was signed with Matthey & Comp.

Wunderschön und extrem fein auf dem Rückdeckel emailliert und mit Halbperlen dekoriert.

Das Gehäuse befindet sich in sehr gutem Zustand. Dazu das originale, mit Perlen besetzte, 18k Goldemaile Chatelaine mit Petschaft und zwei Schlüsseln. Das Chatelaine ist in gutem Zustand mit kleinen Fehlstellen in der Emaillierung. Zeiger und Zifferblatt sind in einem sehr schönen, unbeschädigtem Zustand.

Flaches Vollplatinenwerk mit Spindelhemmung, Schlüsselaufzug, Kette/Schnecke, dreiarmiger Messingunruh sowie sehr fein gesägter und gravierter Unruhbrücke. Das Werk wurde vom Uhrmacher frisch gereinigt und auf seine Funktion geprüft. Insgesamt befindet sich die Uhr in sehr schönem Zustand. Gewicht 69g, mit Chatelaine 103g.

Diese dekorative Louis-seize Taschenuhr stammt aus der Zeit um 1790. Die Uhr vereint sowohl Stilelemente des verspielten Rokoko, als auch des geradlinigen, antikisierenden Klassizismus. Sie besitzt ein klar gegliedertes Zifferblatt mit vertikal ausgerichteten, römischen Ziffern und filigranen, durchbrochen gearbeiteten Zeigern.

Die geometrisch dekorierte Lünette besteht aus sehr feinen, opal schimmernden und transluzid blauen Emailfeldern. Die Rückseite ist dekoriert mit einem spitzovalen Emailmedaillon mit zeittypischer, haarfeiner Malerei, eingerahmt von Halbperlen. Dargestellt sind eine junge Dame im antikisierenden Gewand, ein Hund und ein Taubenpaar. Das Medaillon wird eingefasst von einem breiten Goldrahmen mit weiß eingelegten Ähren, Blütenranken und Vasen. Es gibt viele verzeichneter Uhrmacher mit dem Namen Matthey (alternativ auch Mathey) die mehrheitlich in der Schweiz angesiedelt waren, andere in Paris.

Aufgrund der stilistischen Merkmale tendiere ich dazu, die Uhr nach Frankreich zu verorten, zumal das Comp des Werkes die englische Bezeigung für Kompagnon Französisch Cie. Ich denke, das die Uhr nach Frankreich gehört, jedoch für den englischen Markt produziert und deshalb mit Matthey & Comp signiert wurde. Siehe dazu auch die Literaturhinweise : G.
