REQUIRES A SMALL REPAIR TO THE CASE HINGE. & MOVEMENT WORKS IN ALL POSITIONS EXCEPT ON ITS FACE. FACE: IS PRISTINE NO HAIRLINES OR CHIPS. GOLDEN WHIP AND SPADE HANDS.

CASE: IS SOLID SILVER FULLY HALLMARKED. Closes usually fine but due to the hinge needing a repair a little help sometimes. BUT IT IS OPENING AND CLOSING. MOVEMENT; HAS ITS ORIGINAL DUST COVER IS AN EXPRESS ENGLISH LEVER. WORKING AND KEEPING TIME IN ALL POSITIONS (EXCEPT FACE down) PIVOTS.

APPEAR TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION HOWEVER. TICKING AWAY MERRILY AS WE SPEAK THOUGH. THESE ARE VERY COLLECTABLE WATCHES.

AND ONLY INCREASE IN VALUE. Solid Silver J G Graves "The English Lever". Pocket Watch circa 1905, requires attention. Case : solid sterling silver bearing hallmarks for Birmingham 1905 with makers mark of W.

S assumed to be William Henry Sparrow. The Case is in reasonable condition with some surface scratching commensurate with age, and some previous inspection marks. All closures snap shut, tight and secure. The rear cover a little gapping and requires a small repair to the hinge which has broken.

Bezel hinge is in good working condition, with the bezel in good order being free from any dinks or dings. Press the top button down, and with help, the rear cover open to reveal the watch winding aperture.

The case spring is present, but not fully functional due to the hinge requiring a repair, which also makes the rear cover a bit awkward to snap back into place. Inside the rear cover an engraved signature of Daniel Sweeney, Foxford. The rear cover still has about half of the engine turning present having a blank car touche, with the case having a serial number of 30. Bow Assembly : in good condition with the bow being secure.

Crystal : is of glass, clear and free from surface scratches being a replacement. Dial : is in MINT condition and is free from hairline cracks or chipping to the dial edges.

The Dial is white with black Roman numerals and sub second dial present. All hands are present and are in excellent condition. The minute and Hour hands being of a gold colour. With the second hand being blue steel in colour.

Under the 12:00 position seen "The English Lever", J G Graves, Sheffield. Movement : full plate 7 jewelled movement with split bimetallic balance with breguet hairspring running the full length of the wind, and keeping good time, +/- 2 minutes a day or better, FACE UP. Tends to stop face down despite the balance pivots appear to be in good order. Will run in all other positions, just not face down. The gilding remains in good condition and is free from any corrosion and scratches, very nice.

On the movement seen J G Graves Sheffield, Warranted English lever with serial number of 23473. The Watch is Key set and wound, and a key is supplied with the watch. Dimensions : Diameter : 53.8 mm, excluding the Stem assembly Movement diameter : 44.9 mm Depth : 22.0 mm.

John George Graves (1866 - 1945) was a successful English entrepreneur and public benefactor. He became Sheffield's Lord Mayor and an Alderman in 1926 and he was given Freedom of the City in 1929.

He was born in Lincolnshire in 1866 and died in 1945, after having settled in Sheffield. Graves moved to Sheffield to become an apprentice watchmaker.

The company was absorbed by Great Universal Stores after Graves' death. He also contributed hundreds of pictures from his private collection. Part of the Union building is known as the "Graves Building".

He also made gifts of land to the city, including Graves Park, Ecclesall Woods, Tinsley playing fields, Concord Park and Black a Moor. Graves Trust, a charitable trust set up in his name, exists to the present day.
