An exquisite gents neo-classical British pocket watch in solid 18k golden case, richly decorated by enamel on engine-turned ground and studded half-pearls. Luxury fabrication, dust cover is equally made of solid gold and decorated by enamel. Please note, this is not small lady watch, the diameter is 51mm, height is 64mm. Pearls are big, about 3.7mm diameter and very high quality.
Movement is signed by J. Bird in London and bears number 1778, which can be probably connected with year of manufacturing. Watch is equipped with full plate movement with steel cylinder escapement, without fusee.Unusually for English watches it also features bridge-type balance cock. The same book explains "The bridge-type balance cock, with two screws fixings, was used just occasionally in England and then generally only on watches of the highest quality". The top plate of the movement is unusually designed.
It features additional decorative shield covering winding barrel with Maltese cross stopwork. It's design follows the balance bridge, forming unusual symmetrical layout. Probably, taking into attention the lack of hallmarks on the golden case, this watch was purposed to Eastern markets, may be for China where symmetrical motifs were popular.Condition Dial seems to be in good condition, with hardly visible defect near 4 hours. Movement is running in every position though I don't guarantee time keeping. The case is in good condition, with some minor soldering traces to the back cover. Watch comes with old key. Good watch, don't miss it. The item "BRITISH 18k GOLD ENAMEL Full Plate Cylinder Non-Verge Antique Pocket Watch" is in sale since Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
