Antique Hampden Watch Co Pocket Watch. This recent estate find is an antique Hampden Watch Company Pocket Watch which is mounted in a Fahys Montauk No. Mounted inside is a 17 jewel mechanical movement, powered by hand winding at the stem.

A lever is used to change the stem to time setting mode. The movement is serial number 716183 which dates the watch to the 1891 time period.

The movement is grade "Anchor in Shield" which is considered a Railroad quality grade. The watch weighs 120 grams. Observations: Both covers were balky screwing back in place and took some patience to get them to thread properly. Condition: The watch winds but the winder feels loose and doesn't develop the expected tension.

The watch is currently not running and is offered in as-is condition, and will require repairs. Physically, the watch is in good overall condition. The back retains about 80 percent of its gold plating, with brassing obvious near the edges. There is a slight dent near the center, but too shallow to make much of a visual impression.

The face has several hairlines with a small surface chip near the 35 minute mark. The movement is clean and looks pretty decent. All pictures show the actual Pocket Watch you will receive.

Bottom line: An early Hampden / Dueber "Anchor in Shield" Railroad Grade timepiece that should be a nice restoration candidate. Love and thank you from Laurence and Sally Martin! Look for them on episodes of. On the Travel Channel, and.
