Louis Audemars, Brassus, Swiss, No. 11156, circa 1870, made for French market. Very fine 18K gold, astronomical quarter-repeating watch, featuring perpetual calendar with leap year indication and moon phases.

Case diameter is 53mm, height without bow is 65mm. The watch bears very distinctives signs of high end production from Louis Audemars workshop. It features golden wheels for both watch and repeating train, lever with counterpoise in form of bishop crook, etc. Serial number 11156 corresponds to 1870 approximately.

Dust cover is signed by Charles Oudin - one of the best and most famous pupil of Abraham-Louis Breguet, who started his own boutique in Palais Royal in Paris in 1801. Closer to mid-XIX century, Oudin's company became more finishing and reselling business.

Zantke's book "Louis Audemars, his work and life", nearly all complicated watches by Oudin came from Audemars workshop. Even Oudin's engraving on the dust cover was frequently performed in Switzerland.. Along with Breguet and LeRoy, Charles Oudin was the main customer of Audemars in France.

Louis Audemars was one of the finest manufacturers of XIX century. While not very successfull in building his own brand, his books reveals that he was subcontractor for complicated watches for practically all top brands of the century, starting from Breguet and Patek Philippe. Condition The watch appears to be in good condition.

The movement is in running condition, repetition strikes as it should. Though as usual time keeping is not guaranteed and cleaning is recommended. Dial seems to be free from defects.
