Rare and interesting pocket chronograph. Unusual regulator dial with separate hours scale. Made by Nicole, Nielsen & Co for C. Dial and movement are signed by C. Case and movement are numbered with matching serial number.

The case is made of solid 18k gold, dust cover is also made of gold. London hallmark dates it to 1865.

Nicole, Nielsen & Co was one of the London's best manufacturers of complicated movements. Although they were important part of London trade and supplied well-known firms such as Frodsham, Dent and others, Nicole, Nielsen & Co signed relatively few watches for themselves. The movement is built to highest standard, typical for top English watchmaking this time.

It's features distinctive winding system was patented in 1845 by Adolphe Nicole and used by company till approximately 1880s. In despite of Adrien Philippe invention, the system by Nicole was the first practical keyless work for both fusee and going-barrel watches.

It was done by use of a heart shaped cam, a feature still used in mechanical chronographs today. This movement was presented in 1862 on London exhibition and became world first single-button chronograph with return to zero function. The watch on sale derives from both of Nicole inventions. The movement is three quarter plate one, with going barrel. It features nicely engraved cock, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.

English table roller lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Clip on back, maker's mark "AN" in a rectangle.

Condition The watch appears to be in quite good condition. The movement is running, but I don't guarantee time keeping.

Chronograph functions as it should, please see the video below the photos. The dial appears to be in decent condition. Diameter is 48mm, height without bow is 59mm. Nice watch, good collector's piece. Nicole Nielsen patented winding system.
