Rare PAUL BUHRE DECK CHRONOMETER Antique Vintage Pocket Watch

  
Excellent and rare oversized lever chronometer by Paul Buhre N 8639. High quality deck watch with big 24 movement. It's built on Lemania's ebauche and beautifully finished and adjusted by Paul Buhre company. The chronometer by Paul Buhre is shown in many books on chronometers subject. According to the book "La Mesure du Temps en Mer et les Horlogers Suisses" (Measurment of the time on See and Swiss Watchmakers) by E.

Fallet: Locle based factory with it's chronometers participated annual competitions of Chronometric Observatory of Neuchatel and gained number of prises - notably in two competitions of adjustments in 1923 and 1948. The same book on p. 165 shows the same chronometer, N 8714, dated 1930 - now being kept in Watchmaking Museum Chateau des Monts in Locle. The chronometer by Buhre N 8809 is shown "Beobachtungsuhren" (Deck watches) by N.

The chronometers by Buhre were used during WW2 by German Navy Kriegsmarine, as illustrated in K. Knirim's book (movement 12694). The chronometer is quite rare.

Condition The watch appears to be in very condition. White enamel Dial seems to be flawless.

Original blued hands and thick glass. Original box is unsigned but matches in every aspect to signed boxes of same Buhre chronometers.

As you can see movement is in good running condition. Paul Buhre company is mostly noted by it's watches for Russian market. Founded at first half of XIX century, at 1890s century the company became supplier of Russian Tsar court and quickly became leading company on Russian watch market.

Company produced high quality watches in Le Locle, Switzerland and assembled them on its Russian factory. After Russian revolution of 1917 the company lost it's main market and was in crisis until late 1920s, when in 1929 it was merged with Henri Barbezat-Bole company. Barbezat-Bole was brother of Charles-Ami Barbezat-Baillot, founder of well known Le Phare company, one of the biggest manufacturers of repeaters and complicated watches.
