Nice watch with jumping independent seconds complication in solid 18k gold case. France, middle of XIX century.

Watch features small lever which allows to start and stop the seconds hand. Such a watches was used in middle of XIX century before chronographs with start / stop / reset to zero functions became available. Dust cover is signed by well known watchmaker Perrelet, together with sons - Watchmakers and Mechanics in Paris.

Perrelet - watchmaker and mechanic Louis Frederic Perrelet was born in Le Locle, Switzerland in 1781. He was pupil of his grandfather - famous Abraham Louis Perrelet. In 1802 he came to Paris where he was worked for Breguet, supplying him escapements. In 1823 he became fully independent watchmaker and shortly after this he became Watchmaker - Mechanic to the King Louis XVIII and after to Charles X and Louis Philippe. Since 1824 Perrelet became Mechanic of Royal Polytechnic Academy of Paris.

His inventions included marine watches with measuring instruments, and he patented a split second precision chronograph in 1827. A large number of pieces in museums and private collections bearing the Perrelet signature were produced by Louis-Frédéric, and live on as historical references of the dazzling know-how of that period. Since 1840/1850 Louis Frederic Perrelet worked together with sons and signed the works as "Perrelet & fils". Condition Watch appears to be in quite nice condition. Movement is functioning, as you see transparent varnish has darkened, but it doesn't affect functionality and will gone after cleaning.

The independent second complication functions as it should. Dial is in good condition, with original Breguet hands preserved. Case has common period wear, nothing special to mention.

Watch comes with it's key. Diameter is 45mm, height without bow is 52mm. Good watch from interesting watchmaker, decent addition to your collection.
