Omega Swiss 1894-1910 Antique Railway Station Masters Goliath 8 Day Watch

  

ANOTHER SUPERB AND EXTREMELY RARE OMEGA WATCH/CLOCK FIND FROM ANTIQUETIMEONLINE! DEFINITELY A WATCH FOR THE COLLECTOR, OR THE OMEGA ENTHUSIAST. This is a stunning, and beautiful three piece'Savonette' 27 ligne snap back watch case.

The inside back of the case is numbered'365XXXX'. As is the usual case for the only 8 day Goliath watch that Omega ever made there are no Omega markings on the case or movement. This particular type of GOLIATH watch would have been made normally for the British Railways as Station Masters desk clocks and the watch would have been housed in a leather box with a battery in the back.

The user would attach a connector to the post on the watch case from the battery which would then light a bulb at 12 o'clock for night reading. The outside of the case is in fantastic original condition for its advanced years showing some light dulling of the finish with light wear marks, a light crease and nicks as would be expected for a watch of this age. The case back and dust cover snap to very well and the inside of the watch case is beautiful white metal showing a bright metal finish.

The watch measures 7.0cms YES!! (70mm) In diameter, excluding the crown. This is a stunning and beautiful QUALITY original OMEGA watch case. This is an absolutely lovely and most importantly totally original dial.

The dial is FULLY signed BY J. C VICKERY OF LONDON (faded slightly) and'M. M & CO' It has thick black painted Arabic and numerals bordered by a black minute track which is in good original condition. The dial shows NO hairlines and I can see damage under the bezel to the 12 position where the bulb would have been housed. Please use the pictures to judge for yourself as they form part of the description.

The beautiful steel Contemporary style hour and second hands look to be original and are in excellent condition. This is a really lovely dial in excellent original condition. The crystal is made from GLASS and seems to be original to the watch showing just light wear here and there but is in good all round order.

This is a beautiful and absolutely genuine OMEGA unsigned (which was usual) movement. It has a beautiful finish and really does show its Omega roots. It has a fantastic engraved balance cock which was also usual for this type of Omega watch. The watch winds smoothly and the pin set works as it should. It is in full working condition and has nice quiet operation and has just had a light oiling.

It has a nice compensated balance with a blue steel overcoiled hairspring. A service would be recommended for optimum performance and time keeping but the watch is keeping decent time.

The gold metal original crown looks genuine to the watch, and is in excellent condition showing slight normal wear.
