Antique 1900s Phenix Astronomical Sidereal 24 Hour Pocket Watch Silver Gold Rare

  

A beautiful, rare and highly collectable Astronomical Sidereal pocket watch made in Switzerland by the Phenix Watch Company In the early 1900s. These watches were used by Astronomers and Scientists.

The watch is set up so that the hour hand goes around the dial once every 24 hours. Phenix Watches were entirely manufactured and assembled on site. This enabled the watchmaker to ensure uniformly high quality and craftsmanship for each watch.

In part as a result of this attention to detail, the brand won a number of industry awards. This model of watch is illustrated on the Wikipedia page for Phenix Watches. Signed Phenix on the Dial, on the Movement and inside the rear cover. This beautiful timepiece is made from hallmarked Solid 800 Silver with added Rolled Rose Gold around the perimeter of the watch case, Bezel and Rear Cover, Crown and Bow and has a lovely gilded movement with 15 Jewels. There are numerous hallmarks for 800 Silver and the Three Bears for Switzerland. It is working well and keeping time. The 24 hour dial is white enamel. There is slight surface damage adjacent to the number 21. Original Matching Gold Breguet Hands. The solid 800 Silver case is in very good overall condition with hinged front and rear covers. Unfortunately the rear cover hinge has separated from the main case.

The inner dust cover is made of metal and is beautifully stamped. This hinge is still functioning well. The Rear Cover is beautifully machined and is engraved with the initials ND. The case measures approx 50.3mm diameter (not including crown). It weighs a total of 76 grams.

Please note there is overall wear commensurate with age and use. There is a flat dent in the case on the left hand side.
