COMPASS & ENAMEL MINIATURE Verge Fusee Antique Silver Pocket Watch

  
Rare and unusual pocket watch from very late XVIII, beginning of XIX. It features beautiful painted enamel miniature, compass, decentered dial for time of day and small window for seconds hand. The miniature is depicting one person playing music and other reading score. The back cover is transparent and allows to see the movement entirely covered by silver plate. Movement features unusual balance bridge with "mock pendulum", engraved with attributes of music. Probably the watch was belonging to musician, as both enamel miniature and decor of balance bridge are clearly depicted to music. The watch is signed by Berthoud in Paris - celebrated French watchmaker. Visually the watch is very unusual and fancy looking. Technically it's a watch with verge escapement, common for this time.

Unusually, time can be set trough the center of the dial, there is additional wheel that rotates cannon pinion (normally on verge watches time setting in sirectly to the cannon pinion). The watch is winding from the back.

Compass needle now isn't moving. Condition Dial is in unusual good condition with minor, hardly visible chip near the opening of glass of compass. Movement is running in every position though I don't guarantee time keeping. The solid silver case appears to be in good condition. Enamel seems to be without visible damages. Diameter is 54mm, height is 64mm. Nice watch, rare addition to antique enamel or verge watches collection.
