It weighs 11.2 grams. The fob measures about 54 inches in total length. This piece was early production of theirs before they adopted clear gold composition markings.
I don't think 9k would have been used at that time in America, as that is a English gold alloy (37.5% gold with the balance being other metals) - I have not seen that on any American pieces. Observations: The back cover closes properly with the correct alignment, but is not latching shut. Condition: The watch winds without difficulty and has been eager to run, keeping good time for several hours during our evaluation. The lever works properly, with the stem, to set the time. The watch has an unknown maintenance history, so is offered as-is without any guarantee of continued operation. We recommend that you have it oiled, and cleaned if necessary, at the earliest opportunity by a trained professional, as these are normal service items that are required on a regular basis. Physically, the watch is in very good condition.
The case has some tiny bumps, but they are not really visible on the outside - being noticed instead by some tiny bumps on the inside surface. The face shows little wear and has a small hairline between the 7 and 8 o'clock positions. The movement is clean and in great shape.
The crystal is shiny and free of any significant scratches. All pictures show the actual watch (and chain) that you will receive.
Bottom line: An early Elgin Pocket Watch that looks like a strong runner, coupled with a rare early R&F solid gold case - a nice find for the serious collector.
