The small workshop "MF" with only five to six employees delivered highly valued and coveted gold cases in outstanding quality, all cases were made exclusively by hand. Until 1885 Meylan Frères was the main supplier for Audemars. The Geneva-based manufacturers unanimously agreed that "there were never before such beautiful and elegant cases".

In 1837, Audemars developed his first watch, which was wind over the crown. This invention has been further improved over the years, in 1847 LeCoultre designed his version of the crown wind.

Audemars combined the two systems and exhibited his production-ready crown wind system at the 1851 London World's Fair. The present movement is most likely a work from this development period, it was made in the late 1840s. The movement is not signed.
