Illinois central open face pocket watch in gold filled case. Size is 50mm or 2 in dia approx. A service comprises of the following, a complete strip down cleaning in an ultrasonic bath, all jewel and pivot holes cleaned with peg wood, the mainspring is removed from the barrel, cleaned and oiled, if this is broken or set it is replaced.

If so, this is stated. The movement is inspected oiled reassembled and adjusted. This watch is from my own collection.

I have owned it for many years and enjoyed it as it has. Dial, now someone else can enjoy it. The watch is running with a true and flat balance motion with good amplitude in all positions. The balance is a cut compensating bimetallic balance with a blued over coil Breguet type hair spring, with screwed in weights in the balance rim and mean time adjusting screws in the balance arms, the centre jewel is in a raised and screw set jewel mount, the train wheel jewels are in flush fit screw set mounts. The watch is keeping excellent time, please note a mechanical watch will not keep time as a quartz watch will. The movement is in a nickel finish with a two tone gold wash, with beautiful damascening on the bridge plates with bright steel crown and ratchet wheels, with all the gold inlay intact. It is marked Illinois central. It has a whip spring style regulator for fine adjustment of the time. The dial is in glass enamel and is double sunk at the centre and 6 o'clock position, it is very unusual in a gothic style, these type of dials are very rare, it is in Arabic numerals with a minute track in the outer chapter and the five minute markers are in red. With Illinois central written in block letters, there are one or two hairlines, between the 11 and 12 and 8 markers they are very feint and quite stable and not problematic. Enamel dials very often have these hairlines.

Chips, or marks of any kind, a near perfect dial. The Illinois central is a railway line that runs from. The hands all three are an elegant slim matched set in plum coloured steel of the spade and whip style and are also in very good condition. Hands of this colour are quite rare and only seen on Illinois watches. The case is a 20 year gold filled case, made by the Bates & Bacon company and is their Royal model.

Cartouche, and a milled coin edge to the body. There is an inscription on the inside rear cover, see photo 10, from the date on this I would say that the case and movement are a. Crown winds and extracts to set the time and functions as it should, there aren't any gouges, dents, or scratches to be seen and no wear what so ever, the engine turned pattern on the rear cover is like new, this is a case that has been cosseted.

The crystal is in mineral glass, it is raised and bevelled and clear but has a couple of tiny chips on the rim, I have not changed it as I believe it to be an original to the case and they don't mar the look of the watch. I try to give an honest and accurate description, please look at the photos as they form part of it. This is an antique, it has been used, it will show signs of use, it is not new.
