Antique Pocket Watch, gold repousse pair cases, London, c1750

  
Gold repousse pair cases, 41 mm. A mid 18th century London watch, with verge escapement, in gold repousse pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, showing a mask to the neck. Four square baluster pillars and a large silver regulator disk. The movement is in good, complete condition, and is running well. DIAL : The white enamel dial is in good condition, with just one very faint hairline running from the centre towards 10. A few light surface scratches, and some small nibbles around the edge. This dial (and hands) are later than the rest of the watch, probably late 18th century.

INNER CASE : Gold, with no visible hallmarks and rubbed maker's mark F? The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The gold stem and bow appear to be original, though the stem has been reattached. A few light bruises around the band. The high dome crystal is good.

OUTER CASE : A gold pair case with repousse decoration showing a classically dressed female seated figure and winged putto. In quite good condition though with some wear to the high points of the repousse work, resulting in one small hole on the hand of the figure..

The hinge, catch buttonv and catch are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. Both cases test as high carat gold. Robert Sellers is listed in London, from before 1748 until about 1755.
