Antique Silver Pair Cased Verge Fusee Pocket Watch - c. A large, chunky antique silver pair cased pocket watch in superb condition for its 182 years. The outer case does show a few minor bumps. But this is to be expected whilst protecting the inner case for 182 years.
The case cover snaps shut nice and tight. Inside the outer case back cover are hallmarks showing a Birmingham assay mark, the date letter for 1841 and the makers initials'JH'. The inner, silver movement case is in excellent condition.Inside the back cover of the case are identical hallmarks to those in the outer case, the cover snaps shut nice and tight. The case has a domed glass, which is in very good condition, just a couple of very minor scratches. The case contains a stunning lacquered brass, verge fusee movement with a beautifully pierced balance cock. All parts of the movement are exceptionally clean, and bright, almost as new. There is no signature to the movement, just a serial number - 1842.
The movement is in excellent working order, winding smoothly, and running the full length of the chain. For a verge watch of this age it is keeping exceptionally good time. The flat, cream coloured, enamelled dial with Roman numerals and gold hands is in almost perfect condition, the centre hole of the dial has a couple of nibbles to the edges, not very noticable, but needed to be mentioned. This is a large, chunky watch. Inner case measures approximately 51mm, excluding pendant, the outer case measures approximately 57mm.
