This is a superb and beautifully decorated Antique Swiss Silver Ladies Pocket Watch with the makers name of W. H inscribed to the case and the movement. Included is a retailers box which bears the name W. The inner case is hallmarked with three Swiss Rampant Bear hallmarks, 0.935. The case measures 4cm in diameter and is in lovely clean condition and with no dings or dents.

The glass is also in very good condition with no chips or cracks but does pop out of the front when pushed. The Swiss Act of 1880 recognised only 0.800 and 0.875 silver as legal standards in Switzerland, and these were the only standards that could be hallmarked in Switzerland. This presented Swiss case makers with a problem, because neither of these were legal in Britain.

Legalisation was implemented in December 1887 of the recognition of a fineness 0.935 for official hallmarking of silver watch cases destined to be exported to Britain as well as the three rampant bears. From 1 June 1907 British assay offices started stamping imported silver watch cases with the explicit fineness mark of 925, instead of the lion passant used on British made items. Therefore, this dates this watch to between 1887 and 1907. We have many other collectable items for sale at affordable prices, please feel free to take a look.
