Antique, silver,'Goliath' pocket watch. Typically for watches from that era, care must be taken not to overwind the spring.

Time is adjusted by crown with the side pin pushed in. The movement is signed with Doxa logo. Large, 0.800 silver case is 6.43 cm in diameter without crown. It has some small dings and other signs of wear appropriate to age. The bask cover is stamped with Swiss and German 0.800 silver hallmarks, which suggests Swiss export to Germany. The dust cover is stamped with 5 medals, Doxa logo and various descriptions in French. Ceramic face is signed: "Doxa Anti-magnetique". The face has some cracks and repairs at 2 and 8 o'clock.

Doxa is a well-regarded watch making company. It was funded by Georges Ducommun in 1889.

Ducommun was born in Le Locle in the Jura mountains, which is the major hub of watchmaking in Switzerland. He started working as an apprentice watchmaker at the age of 12. He funded his watchmaking company in Chateau des Monts when he was 21.
